Is there a bar at Brekke's Resort? - There is a bar/game room at Brekke's Resort. It's open in the evening, and for food we serve pizzas.
How big are the cabins? - At Brekke's Resort we have 11 cabins. 5 are one bedroom and 6 are two bedroom. So if you're looking for a family reunion, we can accommodate up to about 40 people.
Can I bring my boat? - There's plenty of dock space to park a boat and an area to park your trailer during your stay. If you have an on board charger, we have power by the lake. You would just need to bring an extension cord. We don't have a boat launch on site, but there is a free public launch 2 miles away. If you plan to bring a boat, there are new laws regarding trailering. Further information can be found by clicking here.
Does Brekke's Resort have boat rentals? - At Brekke's Resort we have kayaks, paddle boards and paddle boats that are free for guest use. You also get a 14 foot aluminum boat included with each cottage. For rent we have a pontoon boat and 8hp motors. More information can be found on the Cottages & Rates page.
When do the fishing seasons open? - The general fishing opener is the first Saturday of May. Muskie season opens the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Smallmouth Bass season opens the third Saturday of June.
Many guests are here to catch panfish. The best tip there would be to keep things simple. Lighter line (6 lb. test), a smaller hook (#8), a sinker and bobber is all you need.
Lake Rules - Three lake rules of note are...
1) Everyone in a boat is required to have a wearable life jacket along. We provide them.
2) Before sunrise and after sunset boat lights are required.
3) The hours for waterskiing and jet skiing are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
What is provided at Brekke's Resort? - We provide bed linens, fans, dish towels, dish soap, all cooking and grilling utensils, dish ware, silverware, lawn chairs and life jackets. We provide more than that of course! But for packing purposes those are the things we're asked about the most.
What do we need to bring? - You would need to bring items like beach and bath towels, soap and other toiletries, charcoal, lighter fluid, paper plates, paper towels and aluminum foil.
Even though we provide them some people like to bring their own tennis rackets, grill and grilling utensils, life jackets and lawn chairs. Some guests bring items like a Keurig, crock pot or DVD player (our TV's are compatible). We want you to make yourself at home here at Brekke's. If there are items that will make your week with us more enjoyable, feel free to bring them.
What is the weather like? - Average highs in the Northwoods are in the low 70's by late May, high 70's by late June and around 80 by late July. They fall back into the mid 70's by late August, mid 60's by late September and low 50's by late October when we close for the season.
When is the water warm enough to swim? - Typically on Lake George from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekends. Of course that depends in part on individual preference and weather variation.
Is there a sandy beach at Brekke's Resort? - We do have a sand beach here at Brekke's Resort. There is a gradual drop off to a swim raft that is anchored in 10 feet of water.
Is there a playground area at Brekke's Resort? - We have two swing sets, slide, step 2 climber and collection of beach toys. At Brekke's Resort we also have a tennis court, shuffleboard, basketball and horseshoes.
Are there hiking and biking trails? - We do not have trials right on site. Many guests will take a run or bike around Lake George, but that would be paved roads as opposed to designated trail. There are many trails in the area though, and we have trail guides here.
When is peak Fall color at Brekke's Resort? - Typically the color will peak in late September or early October. Starting in September we post a photo each week on the Brekke's Resort facebook and instagram page.
